AE partners with the
Rockford Art Museum
to present a single performance of the play, RED, Friday, Mar. 31, in the museum’s main gallery.

There will be a pre-show talk by Museum Curator Carrie Johnson on painter Mark Rothko, the subject of the Tony-winning play RED.

Ensemble members Stephen F. Vrtol III and David A. Gingerich perform a staged reading of the play with an audience talk-back following.

It’s 1958 and famed abstract expressionist painter Mark Rothko (Vrtol) has just landed the biggest commission in the history of modern art. As he and his assistant, Ken (Gingerich), work feverishly on a series of murals for the exclusive Four Seasons restaurant, questions arise: “What is art? And who gets to decide?”. Rothko is haunted by the possibility that his crowning achievement could become his undoing.
